Photographer Julian Calverley recently got a job in Faroe Islands, in the Kingdom of Denmark. He used the frequent dead times during the shooting to take some pictures of the surroundings with his camera phone. The result is this stunning collection of otherworldly landscapes that makes me wish I was there now. These beautiful islands have an atmosphere all of their own, so when I’m asked to describe them, it’s hard to make a comparison to anywhere I’ve been previously, the only one I can come up with is a vague cross between Iceland and parts of N.W Scotland, but really it is quite unique. The spontaneous and portable nature of the iPhone, the availability of some excellent image processing apps and the ability to share the work with a wider audience via various microblogging platforms, makes it a powerful and liberating tool, capable of some surprising results.
