Bar Longhi, The Gritti Palace, Venice

It’s taken 15 months and $50 million to restore the landmarked Gritti Palace to its glory: hand-laid terrazzo floors, furniture upholstered in fabrics from storied local firm Rubelli, walls covered with antique mirrors. Bar Longhi takes its name from the three scenes painted by Pietro Longhi that still hang there. But it should really be named after the celebrities (Woody Allen, Julian Schnabel) who co-opt it as their clubhouse during any of Venice’s cultural bashes, from the Biennale to the film festival. 2467 Campo Santa Maria del Giglio; 39-041/794-611; thegrittipalace.com.
